Ping Safety Principles

How we design Ping to keep kids safe — by default

Ping is built for families who want a calm, private, and safer way for children to message. Safety isn't an add-on for us — it's a design principle that shapes every part of the product. Below are the principles we follow when building Ping.

01

Parents are always in control

Ping is designed around families, not public networks.

  • Parents create and manage child accounts
  • Parents approve contacts and connections
  • Parents control what features are enabled (text, voice, video, stickers)
  • Parents can reset access or disable accounts at any time

Children never manage their own network alone.

02

No public discovery — ever

Ping has no public profiles, searchable usernames, or friend suggestions.

  • Children cannot be found or contacted by strangers
  • Connections only happen intentionally
  • There is no "find friends" feature

If you can message someone on Ping, it's because a parent approved that connection.

03

Connections are intentional and local

Friends connect in person using QR codes.

  • No random requests
  • No automated matching
  • Optional parental approval for every new connection

This makes accidental or unwanted connections far less likely.

04

Privacy comes first — for kids and parents

Ping is built with privacy-first defaults.

  • Messages are end-to-end encrypted
  • We don't track behavior or build profiles
  • We don't sell or share personal data
  • Children don't need an email address or phone number

We collect only what's necessary to make the app work — nothing more.

05

Safety without surveillance

Ping does not monitor or read children's messages by default. Instead, we focus on:

  • Strong boundaries
  • Parental visibility into connections
  • Clear controls
  • Simple reporting

We believe safety should come from design and trust, not constant monitoring.

06

Clear reporting and fast action

If something feels wrong, help is easy to reach.

  • Children can report concerns with one tap
  • Parents can review and act quickly
  • Reported connections can be paused immediately
  • Accounts that violate our rules can be restricted or removed

We take reports seriously and act decisively when needed.

07

Abuse prevention by design

Ping includes safeguards to reduce misuse, such as:

  • Limits on connection attempts
  • Friction for unusual behavior
  • Review of reported or suspicious activity

These measures help prevent abuse without affecting normal families.

08

We design for real families, not growth at all costs

Ping does not use:

  • Ads
  • Engagement tricks
  • Algorithms designed to keep kids scrolling

Our goal isn't to maximize screen time — it's to support healthy communication.

09

We keep improving

Keeping kids safe is an ongoing responsibility. We regularly:

  • Review safety patterns
  • Improve safeguards
  • Update defaults as we learn more

We listen to parents, experts, and real-world use — and we adjust accordingly.

Our commitment

Ping is built with care, intention, and respect for families. We can't promise a perfect world — but we can promise that safety, privacy, and parent trust will always come first.
